As more studies continue to publish the healing properties of cannabidiol (CBD), more people are willing to give it a try to improve their skin. But before you dive right in and spend your hard earned money on the latest CBD skin care product you must be aware that not all are created equal. In order to ensure that the product you are using will be the most effective, you must look for products that contain full spectrum CBD.

What Is Full Spectrum?

Full spectrum is the term that experts refer to when the CBD they use contains all of the cannabinoids and terpenes from the whole plant. What does this mean? It is simple. Full spectrum CBD contains a long list of cannabis compounds including Cannabinol (CBN), Cannabicyclol (CBL), Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) and Cannabichromevarinic Acid (CBCVA) and even a trace amount tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). This is why full-spectrum CBD is more effective than the alternative, which is CBD in its isolate form.

When CBD is in its isolate form the manufacturer extracts oil from the plant, separating it from the other cannabis compounds. Once the oil cools down, it turns into crystals, which eventually form a powder that only contains CBD. It was once thought that CBD isolates were more potent and concentrated than full spectrum CBD but, this theory has since been debunked by a study from the Lautenberg Center for General Tumor Immunology in Jerusalem.

Why You Need Full Spectrum

In order to understand why full-spectrum CBD is better and more effective than CBD isolates, you need to know about the Entourage Effect. The Entourage Effect refers to when the compounds from the whole cannabis plant work together to synergistically provide therapeutic benefits to the user. Researchers at Jerusalem’s Hebrew University Hadassah Medical School discovered this effect when they found the body benefits most through the use of a combination of CBD and THC, not just one or the other.

Of course, CBD isolates still work to provide relief for some symptoms. But studies show that using full spectrum CBD is more effective. This is especially the case for people who have more than one symptom to treat with CBD. In addition, researchers have found that CBD isolates do offer relief of symptoms, but there have been studies that indicate CBD in this form becomes less effective over time.  On the other hand, many studies indicate that full-spectrum CBD offers continued relief, helping to greatly decrease pain and inflammation for people who rely on it.
